Fishing

Pontoon is in the heartland of a fishing haven and with a choice of rivers, lakes or sea it is an annual destination for many fishermen from all corners of the globe. Local lakes, Lough Conn and Lough Cullen, offer trout and salmon fishing; Ballina's River Moy is famed for salmon fishing and deep sea angling can be enjoyed off Killala Bay for seatrout, mackerel etc.

Golfing

There are many excellent golf courses in the immediate and surrounding areas and most are within a comfortable one hour drive of Cuingmore House.

Amongst the popular courses are Castlebar, Enniscrone, Westport, Mulranny and Carne Golf Links at Belmullet.

Hill-walking

There are a number of charming forest and lakeshore walks in the Pontoon region with a rich variety of flora and fauna along the way. The most popular walk is the Foxford Way, an 86km walking route around County Mayo, part of which contours around Pontoon.

In Foxford there are other very well developed trails, the Foxford Loops Walks, suitable for all levels of fitness all easily accessible from town.

The Mullet Peninsula, the Western Way , the Sculpture Trail, the historical Great Famine Walk and Croagh Patrick are also within easy reach.

Driving-Tour

The Wild Atlantic Way and its spectacular natural scenery is at our doorstep and the bungalow is on the Lough Conn Drive, a looped drive around majestic Lough Conn with magnificent scenery and photographic opportunities.

Beaches

Lough Cullen has a number of small sheltered beaches with the most popular one at Drummin Wood.

The bungalow is also a good base for visiting the many Mayo’s Blue Flag beaches and strands in North Mayo: Ross Strand, Lacken Strand or Enniscrone's sandy dunes, where you can enjoy a swim in the clear water or experience Enniscrone Seaweed Baths.

Nearby is Easkey, a popular destination for tourists interested in water sports and one of Europe's premier surfing locations.

Cycling

Cycling is an activity very well developed in this area. The bicycle is a very interesting way to discover the countryside, its beautiful landscapes and many breathtaking views. You can travel along in comfort at your own pace, taking time to enjoy the valleys, plains, mountains and steep cliffs.

Some of the more popular cycling routes are within easy reach such as the Great Western Greenway and the Humbert Road.
